The Teacher Welfare program area at the Alberta Teachers’ Association is looking for a motivated, highly skilled and positive candidate to fill the position of Program Assistant. This position provides advanced secretarial support to the Coordinator, Executive Staff Officers and Intermediate Staff.
Reporting to an intermediate staff member, duties include providing a high level of clerical support to the Teacher Welfare are by prioritizing and organizing correspondence, screening telephone calls by answering routine inquiries and directing callers to appropriate personnel. Additional duties include producing various lists and correspondence from data bases and other documents related to bargaining, collecting materials required for collective bargaining and the collective bargaining processes and assisting with the production of various documents and presentations for the Teacher Welfare Area Conference. In addition, other duties include maintaining various databases and contact lists, assisting in the creation of new processes for maintaining program area central files, assisting in the production of meeting materials for various committees and volunteer corporations, preparing meeting materials for distribution and performing other duties as assigned.
The successful candidate will have completed grade 12, have a minimum of five years clerical/secretarial experience and an intermediate level of expertise in MS Office especially Word, Excel and Outlook. Completion of course work in an administrative assistant program would be an asset. The ability to work in French and English is desirable. Exceptional skills in writing, formatting documents and proofreading according to the Association style guide are required. We are looking for a proven candidate who has experience dealing with difficult and sensitive situations, who thrives under pressure in a dynamic environment, can adjust to changing priorities and who is able to work independently with minimal supervision.
This position falls within the scope of Unifor Local 777 and offers a starting salary of $48,592 to a current maximum of $60,504 (after five years of service) plus a full range of employer-paid benefits.
